Danish flavor still fills the town of Charlotte Amalie. Named for a Danish queen, Charlotte Amalie is the main
city on the island of St. Thomas, and is also the capital of the United States Virgin Islands.
Dating from the old days as a Free Port, Charlotte Amalie has enjoyed duty free status, which now means
perfumes, liquor, jewelry, watches and electronics can be had at substantial savings. U.S. currency is used
throughout the islands and credit cards are accepted by almost all businesses. Today, St. Thomas is the pre-
eminent cruise ship destination in the Caribbean.
There are also museums, galleries and restaurants to show you the island and its peoples. Leaving from
